REFLECTIVE WRITING:EVALUATION OF WRITING

     Greetings and Assalamualaikum, Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ainaa Insyirah binti Saliman, and I am currently in my final semester of this information management course. In this reflective article, I aim to convey my own experience on the course IMD312, which focuses on Reference and Information Services for Information Agencies. There are only a few months left until I finally get my diploma, inshallah. The time has gone by so quickly, but I feel like a different person than when I took the offer to study at Uitm Samarahan. These experiences have shaped my academic path, personal growth, and desire to be a better person.The information management course at UPU is my first choice. I didn't know what the course was about at the time, but most people told me that it would open up a lot of job opportunities in a wide range of fields. I was surprised to find that this course is really interesting, and I'm glad I chose it.

    Madam Nurfaizah has been my academic advisor since semester one, she was my lecturer for IMD111 which is Introduction to Information Skills. She was also the first lecturer who introduced to us how to search for information correctly. From the subject, I also learned about OPAC, and from that website we can access many materials that we need and know the location of materials inside the library. Plus, even last semester, she also teaches IMD312 which is Introduction to Reference and Information Services, I never felt bored during her class because she knew how to attract her student's attention and always ensured we understood what she taught by providing games or quizzes at the end of the lecture.

Issue

     In this reflective journal, I will be talking about my learning experience in this subject. At first, I felt curious about this subject and excited to know what the subject would teach me, so I always began with many questions before starting to learn every topic. One of the topics that interest me in this subject is topic 4, which is information sources. this topic is about Identifying various types of encyclopedias and dictionaries. Before I learned about this topic, I was still confused about the meaning of information sources and what criteria are used in the evaluation of encyclopedias and dictionaries. In, addition it is not only about topic 4, I am also would like to know how this subject can help me in my daily life or even for my future reference.

 

 Experience

     As I listen to Madam Nurfaizah’s lectures throughout the course of months, I was able to gain both theoretical understanding and practical experience.During this learning process, I understood important ideas like how to find information, how to help users, and the role of technology in modern information agencies. These topics helped me see how information services are always changing and how important they are for meeting the needs of a wide range of users. This learning journey greatly increased my understanding of reference and information services, giving me a bigger picture of how important they are in today's world.

 

     As elaborated in topic 5, this subject matter offers an all-encompassing examination of the assessment of reference services. It encompasses the rationale behind evaluation, the criteria that can be assessed, and the diverse methodologies employed. Furthermore, it underscores the conventional significance attributed to compiling reference statistics for future reference. Furthermore, this subject enlightens me on the necessity for  continuous strategic planning and community-wide surveys to gauge the efficacy of reference services.Other than that, by  Learning this subject which is reference and information services is also help enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills.it is enabling me to address complex information needs and queries effectively.As Madam Faizah always mentioned in class, problem solving and crital thinking is importance skills to have in every person.So, it is proof that this subject can help students to get many skills ,for example students know to  access relevant and reliable information.

 

     I also learned that there are different kinds of dictionaries and that we can even get them online. One type of dictionary is a general dictionary, and another type is a specialised dictionary. Today, there are also a lot of online dictionaries, like "OneLook Dictionary Search," which I learned about in this class.This subject shows that I  can learn many skills for getting information that can help me with any task.

 

     In addition, the activities i engage in during the class are also part of this experience. I find that having exercise questions helps me retain and understand the subject better because it gives me more chances to practise and apply what I have learnt.The practical application also helps to clear up any remaining questions or ambiguities regarding the lecture topic.It is a great method for me to enhance my learning process as I am the type of person who easily forgets things and gets confused about certain topics.

 

     Furthermore to exercise questions, we also feature a quiz game in the classroom.This activity enhances the subject's appeal and facilitates comprehension. We participate in online quizzes via Quizizz.I've learned from this activity that it has the potential to boost my engagement and motivation.It significantly enhances the enjoyment of the learning experience by offering students an interactive platform to assess and validate their understanding.

Future Practices

     These experiences have heightened my determination and passion to further explore this subject. This course has equipped me with a wealth of information, enabling me to effectively tackle any future challenges based on what I have learned. I plan to use all of these skills when I pursue further education and employment.
